Austin Wolf-Sothern returns to the show after a (very) long absence to talk about Freeway starring Reese Witherspoon! After reminding us of the role he played in establishing one of the main bits of our podcast lore, we talk about his (very apt!) first viewing of this movie. We run through director Matthew Bright’s fascinating filmography, discuss the Little Red Riding Hood framework, and try to make sense of the bizarre order of the credits in this movie. We heap praise on Reese Witherspoon (and her star turn in this movie), admire the love and empathy that Matthew Bright has for his characters, and talk about how ahead of its time Freeway was (in many ways). Austin praises Brittany Murphy. We talk about the reveal of the final scene at grandmother’s house — and how different it is in the original (and Vinegar Syndrome-restored) version.
