Watch The Theron #019 – Waking Up in Reno (2002)

In the history of the CageClub Podcast Network (and the nearly 500 episodes we’ve released so far), rarely have opinions been as split about a movie as they are here. Is Waking Up in Reno a terrible movie, or is it a wonderfully mindless reprieve from the first-half sludge of Watch The Theron? The answer, as it turns out, depends on who you ask. Join us as we try to get to the bottom of this road trip movie (which also stars Patrick Swayze and Billy Bob Thornton) by weaving across the country en route to see Robosaurus demolish its prey in Reno. Will our special guest be able to moderate our discussion? Which side of the fence will she fall? And how, oh how, will we ever be able to pitch a sequel?! Regardless, one thing is for sure: even in a dumb, dumb comedy like this (which is also filled with dumb-dumb characters), there’s a genuine bond and friendship between our two leading (strong! fully fleshed out!) female characters, the likes of which we have yet to see in a Charlize Theron movie. Yay!
